Two of the things that Bangkok is most famous for are markets and food, and the area between the Flower Market and Chinatown has probably the greatest diversity of both. This isn’t a shopping tour and it isn’t a full food tour. It’s a walking tour where we explore Thai culture through markets and snacks! As we walk we will pass through several market areas selling a diverse range of items.

Markets are a vital part of Thai society and through this tour we will explore local shopping habits, eating habits and even dig a little to learn more about the local economy. The walk passes through the heart of both the Chinese and Indian communities in Bangkok, allowing us to explore the cultural diversity of the city.

Starting with a brief walk through the flower market we will continue to walk through places famous market areas like Ban Mo, The Old Siam, Phahurat, Sampaeng, Khlong Thom, Charoen Chai and Talad Mai. As we walk we will see each area focusing on items ranging from fabrics, electronics, DVDs, guns, wedding accessories, fashion accessories, funeral accessories and food! Actually, everywhere sells food and we will stop for a diverse range of snacks along the way.

This is full 4-5 hour walking tour and while it does pass through markets it is not intended to be a shopping tour. The total walk is about 3km so not too strenuous. However, it is hot in Bangkok so be prepared! We will have lots of breaks along the way.

We will snack as we go (so don’t eat too much beforehand) and we reckon you will be full at the end. However, the tour will finish in Yaowarat Road in Chinatown, just as all the evening street food vendors are setting up, so if you are still hungry there will be plenty more to explore on your own after the tour.
